I love your picture of the Refuge building - I spent several years in Manchester as a student and working outside the city in Cheshire. Your pictures remind me of those now long ago and happy times.

Lovely post! I've never been to Manchester, but this has made me really want to visit (and to reread my Elizabeth Gaskell novels).

I'm a committed wanderer in cities too and have only just realised since reading your last couple of posts that autumn is a time of year whe the urge to go walkabout becomes irresistible!

Manchester has amazingly slipped under my radar so far, maybe because the first thing that comes to people's mind when it is mentioned is football... From what you share it seems to have a lot more to offer, though. I will have to go one day, if not for anything else, to see for myself what The Portico Library considers to be "Polite literature"!

Just catching up on your posts and this one is timely reminder that I really do need to return to Manchester — I've only been back once since I finished university, way back in 1989!
