I enjoy January. I don't love the cold weather, but I love the way that January feels like waking up after a period of slumber and torpor, darkness and far too many fairy lights.
It has a crunchy freshness to it to match the seasonal celery and radishes.
A zingy sourness that comes as a relief after December. It is fresh, bright, and brisk, the season of snowdrops, tiny blue irises, pale pink skies, frosty mornings and longer days. Already there are signs of growth in the garden, and the greengrocers are full of good-for-you vegetables and displays of circles and stripes and colours.
Closer to home are the greengrocers of Shoreditch (a great place to visit on a Sunday for flowers, bagels and coffee to offset the chill),
