The Charley Harper fabrics are inspired. Or, should I say, Charley Harper himself was inspired. I don't go much for animal prints, but his 'minimal realism' (as he described it) turns giraffes and foxes and koalas into clever patterns which are both artistic and appealing. So I made a very large 'Zoo Quilt' for Phoebe using the 'Nurture collection', plus a couple of other fabrics from Ray Stitch. It's very simple and made up of strips of varying widths, because I was thinking of animals behind bars at London Zoo.
Then yesterday when I was making beds, I saw the penguins sitting on eggs and sheltering their chicks, and the birds making their nests, and thought how apposite the fabrics were for a quilt to keep you warm in winter.
These photos were taken on a warm, sunny day when it was difficult to imagine cold, frosty nights.
Not now it isn't.
